Privacy and data protection
Privacy is part of the respect people deserve
No-Extinction considers privacy protection part of the respect owed to everyone who visits the site and takes part in the project.
That is why we try to collect only the data that is genuinely necessary, avoiding advertising, commercial profiling and unnecessary forms of tracking.
1. Data controller
The controller of any personal data collected through the website no-extinction.org is:

You can use this address for any request concerning privacy or the processing of your data.
2. Which data may be processed
Simply browsing the site involves the automatic processing of technical data required for Internet communications and by the systems hosting the site, such as the IP address, browser type, operating system and pages visited.
No-Extinction does not use this data to personally identify visitors, nor to build individual profiles.
Through the contact and participation tools available on the site we may process data you provide voluntarily, such as your name, email address and the content of your message, and — for those who ask to receive project updates — the email address only.
3. Website usage statistics
No-Extinction uses Plausible Analytics to obtain aggregate statistics on the number of visits, pages viewed, general traffic sources, country and device type.
Plausible Analytics was chosen for privacy-friendly analysis: it collects data in aggregate form, without cookies and without individual profiling.
4. Cookies
No-Extinction does not use advertising or profiling cookies.
The project aims to minimise the use of cookies and similar technologies that are not necessary for the site to work.
If future features require cookies or similar technologies, this notice will be updated and, where the law requires it, tools will be provided so that you can express your choices.
5. Participation, contact and updates
The “Get involved” form sends your message to the No-Extinction editorial team through a technical email provider. The data you enter voluntarily (reason for contact, name, email, message and any area of expertise) is used solely to read your request and reply to you.
The “Follow the project” section allows you to subscribe to project updates. Subscription uses double opt-in: after your request an email with a confirmation link is sent, and the subscription becomes active only if the link is opened. If the confirmation never arrives, the address is not activated.
To manage updates we keep only the email address, the status of the subscription (pending, confirmed or cancelled), the language of communications, the dates of request, confirmation and any cancellation, the version of the consent given, and the technical codes — stored in encrypted form — needed to validate the confirmation and unsubscribe links.
Consent to updates is separate from any other consent, is not pre-selected and can be withdrawn at any time through the unsubscribe link included in every email or by writing to the privacy contact address. After withdrawal the address is no longer used to send communications.
The Global Petition requires signing with email verification (double opt-in): a signature is counted only after the confirmation link has been opened. For each signature we keep the first name, last name, country, email address, signature status, the version of the text signed, the date of the request and of any confirmation, consent to the privacy notice and the optional consent to publication of the name; the technical codes of the verification links are stored in encrypted form only.
The public list of signatories shows only people who gave the optional consent to publication, with first name, last name initial and country. The email address is never published. Consent to publication can be withdrawn and a signature can be removed by writing to the privacy contact address.
Data is not used for advertising, commercial profiling, sale to third parties or purposes other than those stated here.
6. Purposes and legal bases of processing
Any data processed serves the following purposes:
Operation and security of the site
Ensuring correct access to pages and the security of the systems.
Replying to voluntary requests
Handling messages, reports and requests sent spontaneously by users.
Participation in activities
Enabling contributions from those who wish to take part in the project.
Sending requested updates
Sending project updates to people who requested them and confirmed their subscription, on the basis of consent.
Legal obligations
Complying with the obligations set out by applicable law.
Legitimate interest
Ensuring the security and correct functioning of the site, within the limits allowed by law and without harming users' rights.
The legal basis for processing may be the performance of a service requested by the user, consent where required, a legal obligation, or the controller's legitimate interest in security and correct functioning, always within the limits set by law.
7. Data retention
Any personal data provided by users is kept only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and for any obligations set out by law.
An email address subscribed to updates is kept until the subscription is cancelled or consent is withdrawn. Unconfirmed subscription requests are treated as invalid and are not used to send communications.
Never keep personal data longer than is genuinely necessary.
8. Disclosure of data
No-Extinction does not sell or transfer personal data for commercial purposes.
Data may be processed by technical providers necessary for the operation of the site, strictly within the limits of their functions and under the controller's supervision.
In particular, to manage subscriptions and forms and to send communications, No-Extinction uses external technical providers, including Lovable Cloud for infrastructure and data storage and Resend for sending emails.
Some processing may involve transfers of data outside the European Economic Area; in such cases the safeguards required by applicable law are used, as declared by the respective providers.
Data may also be disclosed to third parties where required by law or by the competent authorities.
9. Security
We adopt reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss or alteration.
No system, however, can guarantee absolute security. We therefore invite users to report any problems or doubts to the privacy contact address.
10. Links to other sites
The site may contain links to external sites or services, such as the LAST CHANCE game. Those sites are subject to their own privacy notices and No-Extinction does not control their practices.
11. Your rights
As a data subject you have the right to:
- request access to your personal data;
- request rectification of inaccurate data;
- request erasure of your data, where provided for;
- request restriction of processing;
- object to processing, where provided for;
- obtain data portability, where applicable;
- withdraw consent, where processing is based on it.
You can exercise your rights by writing to mail@no-extinction.org. We will reply within the timeframes set by law.
If you believe your data has been processed unlawfully, you can lodge a complaint with the competent data protection authority. In Italy this is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
