Beyond the summary

Understand more to decide better

The great global challenges are complex and cannot be understood through slogans or a handful of figures. In this section you can explore problems, solutions and proposals in depth through analysis, data, sources and documents.

We don't ask you to trust us. We invite you to verify.

The library

Choose what you want to explore

Explore the project's main areas. Each area progressively gathers analysis, data, sources and links to the other global problems.

How it is organized

Three reading levels

Each in-depth article is a single page, organized progressively: you can stop at the summary or continue through to the full documentation.

  1. In Brief

    about 2–3 minutes

  2. In Depth

    full article

  3. Sources and data

    documentation and references

How sure are we?

Distinguishing the confidence level

Each in-depth article indicates how solid the available knowledge is. These levels are not assigned automatically: they derive from the scientific sources consulted and may change over time.

  • Solid evidence

Numerous studies and authoritative sources converge.

  • Evolving evidence

Current knowledge points in a direction, but significant uncertainties remain.

  • Open question

We do not yet have sufficient evidence for robust conclusions.

Uncertainty does not mean we know nothing. It means also knowing where our knowledge ends.

Editorial model

How each in-depth article is built

A consistent structure makes the content comparable and verifiable. The first published articles already follow this organization.

  • Category, title and subtitle
  • Last updated and reading time
  • In Brief
  • What we know
  • How sure are we?
  • What we don't know
  • Why it matters
  • What we can do
  • Different arguments and positions, when a real debate exists
  • Sources and data
  • Links to other in-depth articles
  • Link to Possible Solutions

The section on different positions is used only when a genuine scientific, economic, technical or political debate exists. We will not construct two artificial positions on well-established facts to simulate neutrality.

Always to be kept distinct

  1. Facts
  2. Interpretations
  3. Proposals

Everything is connected

Connections between topics

Many in-depth articles will concern problems that influence one another. Where useful, we will indicate these connections to help you read the bigger picture.

  1. Climate
  2. Water
  3. Food
  4. Migration
  5. Economy
  6. Social stability

The connections indicate possible mutual influences, not automatic cause-and-effect relationships.

How to read No-Extinction

Our method

  • Facts

Verifiable data and statements, accompanied by their sources.

  • Uncertainties

When knowledge does not allow for firm conclusions, we say so.

  • Interpretations

As far as possible, we distinguish what emerges from the evidence from the interpretations that can be drawn from it.

  • Proposals

The solutions presented by No-Extinction can be discussed, criticized and improved.

Knowing does not mean having certainty about everything. It means trying to understand what we know, what we don't know, and on what basis we make our decisions.

Verification

Where does the information come from?

We favor primary scientific sources, international bodies, public institutions, recognized datasets and original documents. When we use other sources, we try to verify them through independent documentation.

Verification path

  1. Studies and data
  2. Verification
  3. Context
  4. Content

Each in-depth article indicates its main sources and the date of last update.

Editorial rule

Every important figure must have a verifiable source.

Comparison

If you find an error, let us know

No-Extinction is an evolving project. Data, knowledge and interpretations can change. If you find outdated information, a better source, an error, or an argument you consider weak, we want to know about it.

Correcting an error does not weaken a project. It makes it more credible.
